The Truman Show was a very interesting movie. It was all based on the life of a man who was unknowingly filmed his whole life. Everyone that knew him and that he was "friends" with were really actors being fed lines to say to him. There were hidden cameras everywhere and he was filmed 24/7. His whole life was planned but the experiences he went through were real. That is why in my opinion his life was real in a sense but unreal in another.
The reason i thin that his life was real is because he didn't exactly know he was being filmed. He never knew that there were thousands of hidden cameras everywhere watching his every move. Everyone knew he was on TV except for him. Even though his wife was set up for him, the feelings he felt for her were still real. His job was real in a sense that he had a routine and went to that job everyday. He got the bacon for him and his family and therefor to me, it seemed real that he had a job and a life. His fear of water was also real because no one told him to think that and no one told him to be afraid of water. When Truman was born, he was born a human and his parents loved and cared for him like any other child. His life was technically real when he was by himself.
The fake perspective of his life was that it was a TV show. There were cameras following him everywhere and the whole world was watching his life go by. But then again, there was the real perspective of his life because that was how he saw it. Everything was real to him and the life he lived was real in his mind. Overall though i do believe that his life was fake and it was not real because it was all set up and contrived.

Vaughn Mills
The trip to Vaughn Mills was overall a pretty sweet trip. The bus ride was a long one but it was worth it when we got there. we arrived there and listened to a five minute presentation about the history of the mall. The lady who did the presentation told us all the important facts and interesting things about Vaughn Mills. I learned that it is the largest one floor mall in Ontario and it is pretty popular. Everything about it was nice. The floors, the shops and the food court were very nicely decorated. I liked how it was split up into different sections. They were different "neighborhoods" consisting of Lakes, Nature, Rural, Fashion, City and small towns. That was pretty cool and it was easy to find your away around. I didn't like how it didn't have the stores that i like to shop at the most, including hollister, abercrombie, etc. The different sections attracted different age groups which was very cool and easy to shop with. Changes i would make include adding more stores and maybe a few more fast food restaurants.

Celebrity gossip
Some advantages for retailers that have celebrities shopping in their stores is that the public is going to want to buy the same things because famous pepole are. This will increase their sales by huge amounts because they will have more business and make a lot more money. Everyone wants to buy what is in the magazines, so retailers should be kissing celebrities butts. Some issues scould be that if they make amistake or do something wrong in their life, it would affect the retailers business. Celebrity endorsements help boost sales by bringing in people to buy the products. Everyday pepole want to wear and have what celebrities have because they think it is "in" and "popular" and "in style". Celebrities become part of the business plan because they help seal the deal, and bring in customers. They are a positive impact on the advertising. I think that celebrites have a little affect because in magazines, and on TV and stuff they look so good and you want to look like them. If you see a rich famous person, your going to want to be a ittle like them because they got it easy and you wish you could too.
a) What are some of the advantages for retailers who have celebrities who shop in their stores regularly and/or celebrity endorsements?b) What are some of the issues that some people have regarding the use of celebrities being used (paid or otherwise) to sell products or promote certain retailers?c) How do celebrity endoresements help boost retail sales?d) How have celebrities become a part of the "business plan and business model", according to the article?e) What do you make of all this? Does celebrity gossip have any impact on your habits as a consumer (consciously or subconsciously)?

Catchy Jingles'
That slogan assignment was hard! I didn't realize how many slogans there really were that i knew but couldn't match to the company. I think it was a good assignment because it really made you think about all the slogans that companies do/can get stuck in your head. Its a good tactic, in my mind, to make you remember their products. I am totally affected by advertising, i mean it is everywhere, how could one not notice it? Those darn jingles get stuck in my head all the time, and its affective. Advertising is very clever and they have many tricks to help sell their products.
Brand loyalty
Brands are i guess you could say important to me. When it comes to clothes, cell phones, purses, personal care products, cars, you name it, I will more than likely be picky. The reason I like brand names is because they're advertised to be the best. So everyone wants them so why wouldn't I? The reason i pick my cell phone was because it was pink, a reliable company (samsung) and because it was a slider phone, which not a lot of people have. Brands are important to me because its advertised as reliable and good quality. Brands that i don't particularly care about are toilet paper, toothpaste and school supplies. The reason for this is because its not important to have good quality everyday things. No one cares at school what kind of supplies you use and all toothpaste tastes the same and serves the same person. And when it comes to toilet paper, it all gets flushed anyways. ha ha My opinions on brand loyalty has remained the same. I like to keep up with fashion and i like to look good ( on most days) , so i like to buy the products that will help me achieve this goal.

Product Placement
Product placement, in my opinion, is very important and it does affect peoples decisions when it comes to buying things. It is a good way of advertising a company's product and i think it always gives a positive result. I think direct advertising is more effective because it shows the product directly to you and not a three second glance on the TV. I think if you were to use product placement in a movie, it would be effective only if it was shown many times and really obviously. Product placement is a good idea and it is a good way for companies to promote their products. I do think it effects peoples decisions when it comes to purchasing products, and if they were to think back to the movies that had the products in them, they would want them.
Media Studies
As a teenager, media is a key element in our growth. I feel as though i rely a lot on the media for information, gossip and fashion tips. What I know about media is that it is pretty powerful and it controls a lot in our society. In this class, I want to expand my knowledge on media and learn more about it. I want to learn how it controls a lot of decisions and how it can make people do things. In this first week of class, I have learned how many people are seriously affected by the media in the activities we did in class. I didn't realize how it can really make people feel bad about themselves and how issues with famous people are very publicised and how everyone talks about other peoples lives.
